Ways to Reduce Business Gas Expenses and Emissions

Whether using it to operate vehicles and machinery or to keep the motors running on an assembly line, business gas can be a costly monthly expenditure for a company. Since the burning of gas adds chemicals to the ozone, the more business gas that a company uses, the more of a negative impact company operations have on the environment as well. Reducing the amount of gas used in day to day business activities can help a company save money and become more environmentally-friendly.

One of the most effective ways to reduce business gas expenses and emissions, of course, it to reduce the amount of gas required to keep a business running smoothly. This involves limiting the use of gas-powered equipment. Times when a company may choose to use a forklift or another gas-powered piece of machinery for moving items in a warehouse, for instance, may be able to able to switch to manual-lifting if the items aren't heavy enough to require the use of equipment.

Switching from gas-run motors and vehicles to electrically-powered equipment provides another effective means of saving on gas, especially when the electricity provided comes from sustainable means, such as solar power or hydropower. Electric vehicles for local deliveries and errands, for instance, can replace gas powered vehicles used for the same purposes and machines may be able to be altered to run on electricity instead of gas.

Equipment that operates manually provides an even greater financial savings, as well as a stable environment. Though most large business equipment may require a powering source of some kind, small gas-powered equipment can often be replaced with manual tools. In a gardening business, for instance, both lawn mowers and hedge trimmers may be powered by gas. Both tools are also available in non-powered versions though that operate manually.

If you have a business that absolutely requires business gas, such as a trucking company or truck rental company, consider switching to vehicles that use a different type of gas. Flex fuel vehicles are designed to use E85, which a fuel blended from ethanol and gas. Since E85 is cheaper than regular gasoline and considerably cheaper than diesel fuel, switching to flex fuel vehicles from diesel-power vehicles can save hundreds of dollars during a cross-country drive and thousands of dollars per year. Many rental truck companies already use flex fuel vehicles. Aside from saving money, flex fuel vehicles have fewer emissions into the atmosphere than standard gasoline.

Though many companies must use some business gas in operations, most of those companies have some areas where they can cut back on usage and save at the same time.
